Explore a Labyrinth of Tunnels

Feeling adventurous? get into your hardhat, slip into your overalls, lock onto the ladder system and descent approximately  20 metres below the prison to explore a labyrinth of tunnels built by prisoners.    Discover original blast holes, bores, oil lamp recesses, and artefacts from the days when working in the tunnels was hard labour for the prisoners.

Guides lead the trek through dry sections of the tunnels on foot, before boarding replica convict punts to explore the submerged passageways accessible only by boat.

Participants must:

  • Be physically fit and able,
  • Have the ability to climb independently,
  • Have the ability to understand tour conditions and follow staff instructions,
  • Meet physical weight requirements - Min 40 Kg, Max 140 Kg,
  • Not suffer from a fear of heights or claustrophobia,
  • Bring or wear socks, and
  • Arrive sober (Mandatory breath test applies)

We will meet outside the prison gates at 1:20 pm sharp.   The tour duration is 2 hours 30 minutes and price is $65.00 per adult.   This includes a pair of disposable overalls and the loan of a hard hat.

At the completion of the tour we will cruise down the cappuccino strip before heading to Port Coogee beach for fish n chips for dinner.
