Introductory Hill Climb Event

It can be argued that hill climbs were the first form of motor sport. It makes sense that all that was required was a hill with a rudimentary road or track, a vehicle with stout hearted driver and a method of timing runs.

Hill climbs are still very popular today and the JCCWA has scheduled one of these events next month.   It is not necessary for drivers to be particularly stout hearted, daring or audacious – just be someone who wants a different experience.   The venue is Jack’s Hill and the course is 800 metres in length.   It is nothing like the infamous Pike’s Peak which may be seen on TV with 800 hp all-wheel drive Godzillas racing towards the heavens.   Jack’s Hill has 16 metres elevation change and should you mess up, your car will only get very dusty – there are no ravines to fall down, big trees to hit or rocky outcrops to ruin your day.

This event is planned to be conducted under a AASA permit with provisions in compliance with Western Australian Covid 19 requirements applicable at the time

As per the last Hill Climb event conducted at Jack’s Hill by the JCCWA, this one will be on the long circuit, a reasonably challenging and entertaining circuit. It will be a Regularity timed event. Competing cars will be directed onto the circuit individually and will complete the run before the next car is released onto the circuit. The driver with the two closest matched times will be the winner. Speed does not matter but having fun and being a consistent, smooth driver will earn a podium place.

The gate opens at 7 am. Vehicle checks will commence immediately and competitors are urged to arrive before 7.30 am so that vehicle checks and documentation requirements can be completed before the scheduled Driver Briefing at 8.15 am and an ‘observation run’ for all competitors soon after. Competition is scheduled to commence at 8.30 am.

Driver apparel. Full length trousers or slacks, long sleeved shirt, closed shoes. Helmets will be available for hire for $25.

Fuel and compressed air. These are not available at the circuit. Fuel brought to the circuit must be in approved containers. Refueling will be by two persons, at a nominated place. A fire extinguisher must be readily available.

Licences. CAMS L2S or AASA Club Licence will be required. AASA Day licences will be available at a cost of $25.

Entry cost. $100 for JCCWA members and $120 for guests.

Food and Drinks. A bacon and egg burger with coffee will be available soon after 7 am. A packed lunch will also be available. These will be free for officials and competitors upon presentation of event entry payment docket and, for other people in attendance, will be available at a reasonable cost.

Event Permit and Supplementary Regulations. These will be available to competitors who have registered their intent to participate approximately two weeks prior to the event.

The winner will receive six french Cristal D'Arques wine glasses kindly donated by Jaguar Club of WA member Richard Prince
